Just thought I would share some advice for an annoying bug with Skyrim and the Steam Workshop not working as intended, as I think it's a common problem but I can not for the life of me find people talking about it. I had subscribed to a good 40+ mods in the workshop but whenever I would start the game the mods would never install. I went online and everything I could find said that when you started the launcher you would see it telling you in the bottom right corner that it was installing and that you would get a message saying when it was done. Well that never happened. Turns out that even though I never got the message of it telling me that it was installing the mods it was still downloading them, I just had no way of knowing.

So if your mods are not installing, just launch the game and let it sit at the launcher for a few minutes; even if it looks like it's not doing anything. To make sure things are being installed, just click on the 'Data Files' button and you should see them starting to propagate as they download. Until they fix it the only way to make sure they are all installed is to go to your subscription list and make sure the number of subs you have match up with the number of installed mods listed in 'Data Files'.

I'm sure not everyone has this problem, but I'm even more sure I can't be the only one who has had this annoying 'glitch'. Thought I would try to save a few people some time hunting around for answers. Everything I found just said that it should work a certain way, but never gave suggestions on how to resolve it should it not. Hope this saves some folks some time.

I'm working on a civilization mod, and this is the first civilization I actually made for this mod, following the tables at the top of each xml file. I have made one civilization before, but this one doesn't seem to work, or at least not show up in game. I couldn't find any posts on this from before, so answers are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm trying to use a byzantine mod in Civilization 5 on my Mac (Mountain Lion), but when I put the mod's folder in ~/Documents/Aspyr/Sid Meier's Civilization 5/MODS, it doesn't sho up in the mod menu. I already have the game set up so I can see Mods in the opening screen, but the mods don't show up in installed mods or downloads.

I tried it with two different file types, an unarchived .civ5mod file and an unarchived zip file. With the unarchived .civ5mod file, it worked, and the folder only contained 2 files, a .lua and .modinfo. The other one, that didn't work, had a folder in it called XML, and then multiple subfolders, i.e. Civilizations, Buildings .. I want to use those mods, but cannot use it with the subfolders. How would I use those mods? Heres the link to one of the mods. here

In this case, you've just installed the mod wrong. Considering the zip's file structure, it's an easy mistake to make.

The zip file has this folder structure ([f]iles and [d]irectories as marked):

Notice the .modinfo file at the bottom there? That's what you're missing. What you most probably did was copy only the Byzantine Mod folder into your Mods folder. You should be able to put the whole Byzantine Mod 2 (v 1) folder into your Mods folder and have it work. Note that this is not the same as putting the byzantine mod 2 (v 1) folder or the Byzantine Mod folder into your Mods folder!

When you have it installed, your folder structure should be:

.. though just putting the .modinfo file and its sibling Byzantine Mod folder in the Mods folder without a containing folder should work too.

First, the stuff that has come from Firaxis themselves. We’re still a long way off a proper expansion, the kind of thing that makes dramatic changes to the way the vanilla Civ experience works, but since launch we’ve seen two new Civs released, both of which are excellent.

As I’ve discussed, Poland is solid, straightforward pick for the kind of person who wields their Civ like a blunt instrument. And the recently-released Australia might be (WARNING: INHERENT BIAS) even better, if not for the uniqueness of some of its abilities (the way outback stations let you colonize the desert is a game-changer) then for the fact some of its traits, like coastal housing, are a solid dig at the country’s current socio-political woes.

And I know scenarios can often be overlooked by Civ players, but the Viking effort is one of the best in years, maybe the best since the classic WWII one included with Civ II. It’s got a great map, and its narrow focus on raiding and combat makes the most of the units at your disposal.

The biggest change to Civ VI post-launch, though, has come with the long-awaited opening of Steam Workshop support, allowing the game’s modding community to step out of the hardcore forums and into the mainstream.

While it’s still early days, there are already a number of notable mods available that you should be installing ASAP. Some, like the venerable R.E.D. Modpack, are just the latest installments in hugely-popular Civ V mods. Not that this is a bad thing; by changing the way units are displayed on the map, R.E.D. is an essential mod, and it’s cool that it’s up and running so early in Civ VI’s lifespan.

The mod I really want to talk about, though, is CQUI, which is a complete user interface overhaul. I can’t say this enough: if you only ever get one Civ VI mod, make it this one, because it makes a big difference to how you play, learn about and enjoy the game.

Here’s a passage from my review of Civ VI, talking about one of the game’s few sorepoints at launc:

There are systems in Civ VI that seem fantastic (and which are integral parts of the overall experience), like trade and religion, but which go woefully under-explained by both prompts and tutorials, and thus go under-utilised until you bury yourself in FAQs and tips, which is very unlike Civ.

There are menu screens—like diplomatic actions—which are important to the game and which you have to get through a lot over the course of 50-5000 hours, but which take 2-3 too many clicks to skip and dismiss.

CQUI fixes this, and more. The idea is that it attacks Civ VI’s vanilla UI from two angles: it wants to make it faster, but it also wants to provide a lot more information to the player.

It accomplishes the former by stripping the game of its annoying tendency to make you over-click. The discovery of new tech, for example, cuts out the screen showing you what you’ve just learned, and instead simply plays the audio in the background so you can go about your business.

And it gives you more information by removing the sub-layers of Civ VI’s menus and just dumping everything in front of your face. You notice this most in city screens, but it trickles in all over the game.

This sounds like minor stuff, but in a game that you play for thousands of hours, these tweaks are life-changing, not just for the time saved itself, but for the extra knowledge you’re picking up on screens that you might not have otherwise clicked on, or even gradually forgotten existed in the first place as your muscle memory kicks in.

I’ve found that by playing with CQUI installed, my games tend to flow more, with less static interruptions. I’ve also found myself learning a little more about how some of the game’s systems operate, especially the factors involved with how a city grows and stays happy, and some of the finer points on international commerce courtesy of a cleaner trade screen.

Most of all though, as someone who already has a handle on the basics of the game, I appreciate the little tweaks and additions that just make the game easier to stay on top of. Having all the information I need only a click away, instead of 2-4, isn’t just saving me time, it’s making me feel like I’ve got more control over my decisions and how the game is unfolding.

Oh, and CQUI also introduces a production queue. So even if you’re not down with all the UI changes, that might be enough to get you installing it on its own.

So yeah! If you haven’t played Civ VI in a while, I can definitely recommend jumping back in and trying some of this new stuff out. And while you’re doing it, keep this dread thought in mind: as good as a couple of mods and pieces of DLC are, imagine what’s going to happen when an actual expansion hits..

Why Would You Want to Cheat?

It is very rare to find a game that really draws you in and gives you a great gaming experience that you’re still talking about the next day, but Civilization V is such a game. Like earlier versions in the series, the game puts you in charge of a tribe in 4000 BC, and charges you with the task of guiding the tribe to greatness, through the building of cities, managing resources, researching technologies and diplomacy.

Civilization V offers an unparalleled gaming experience, one that you won’t find anywhere else.

So why on earth are you looking for Civ V cheats? Well, perhaps you have been soundly beaten by choosing too high a difficulty level, or you want an instant fix to a problem you are facing. Perhaps your poor diplomatic skills are leading to worldwide nuclear war, or you’re just not “getting' the game.

If you really must cheat at Civilization V, then the following methods are available; but be warned, they can seriously spoil your enjoyment of a superb game…

Play at Easy Level

Probably the most obvious solution to any difficulty issues in Civilization V is to play at the easiest level. As well as keeping things simple in terms of trade and diplomacy (you won’t have to deal with any sudden betrayals from your friends, and if you do they won’t send much of an army after you) the lowest difficulty level, Settler, features various in-game tutorials and hints.

The full list of levels is as follows:

• Settler
• Chieftain
• Warlord
• Prince
• King
• Emperor
• Immortal
• Deity

Prince level is considered the “middle ground', a level playing field where both the player and the NPCs are on exactly the same page with no advantages; lower levels offer bonuses for happiness and maintenance costs and Barbarians are less bothersome. Note that in levels above Prince, the AI controlled civs get bonuses while you don’t, as well as additional starting units and techs.

You may find through regular play that certain types of victory – such as the Cultural victory – are easier to achieve at some levels than others; however, if you do opt for a cheat mode, this building this level of experience will not be possible…
